Judged against the brief

Waste Reduction Impact

April 2026 data shows several SKUs running 8–17% waste. SmartServe brings the over-wasted tail toward the ~5% target and surfaces the under-ordered items currently hiding stockouts. Net case-level waste projected down ~30–45% per store, per month.

Customer Experience

Because we don't strip the case, in-store availability after 2 PM improves. Tier 1/2 plays feel like helpful suggestions, not desperate markdowns. Student discounts and Waste-Not Flights give guests a reason to come in, not just a coupon.

Feasibility

Runs on a single laptop. Inputs are the existing POS export + a daily waste tally. Outputs are a printable order sheet and an in-store tablet view. No new hardware, no rebuild of the loyalty app — just rules layered on top.

Innovation

Most waste tools optimize for zero. SmartServe is the first to formalize the ~5% optimum-waste threshold and pair it with a tiered, guest-respectful intervention ladder — including Waste-Not Flights as a profit-positive rescue product.

Note: projections come from a single-store simulation against April 2026 Woods Coffee sales + waste data. Real-world rollout would A/B-test tiers per region before generalizing.
